Free Online Roland D-10/Roland D-20 Editor, Librarian, Timbre and Tone sharing utility
Features
- See and edit all the 246 Tone and 16 Timbre parameters of a D-10/D-20 at the same time - a feature not present in any other D-10/D-20 editor out there(?). You can of course use the zoom function of the browser if you would like to focus on a specific area instead.
- Bidirectional communication with your Roland D-10/D-20 using SysEx.
- Use the Request button to capture the currently loaded timbre and tone from the synth hardware.
- Copy/Paste between partials. You can even paste partial parameters between timbres this way. Please note that if you paste a partial into a layer with another configuration than the source (PCM/Synth) then the result might look confusing.
- See parameters and learn from your favorite presets.
- You can save your timbres if you log in using a Google Account (see the FAQ below for more information about this).
- A public timbre library/timbre sharing utility is integrated into the editor. You don't have to be logged in to access public timbres.
- You can select the individual Part you want to work on.
- Works with the temporary memory of your synth hardware.
Instructions/how to make it work
- Web MIDI is not widely supported yet. The editor will probably only work in Chrome or Opera and not on iOS (but Android should be OK if you're using a separate MIDI interface).
- You must allow SysEx access for the web page.
- You will need an external MIDI Interface to connect to your D-10/D-20 via the MIDI In and MIDI Out sockets.
- Please set the "MIDI In" and "MIDI Out" of the Editor to match the Interface you are using to connect to the D-10/D-20.
- If you have an external keyboard select it as "Keyboard In", but to avoid latency it might be better if you use your D-10/D-20 own keyboard instead.
- To avoid a MIDI loop don't select the "Keyboard In" option - just use it if you really have to connect another keyboard.
- Please match the Device ID of the hardware with the editor (default is usually 17 on both hardware and Editor).
- The Part you are working on may not be set to receive the keyboard input (playing notes). This need to be set via the D-10/D-20 panel (midi channel).
- Consider the current version of the editor as a beta version. Please contact me for bug reports and suggestions. The software is developed using a D-20 but should work with D-10 also (not tested yet so please report if it works or not).
- After your Timbre is ready, you can save it into your synth store memory by using its own panel keys and following the appropriate procedure (please refer to the manual).
- Galhardia and Breadandbuttersounds are not responsible for lost presets or other negative effects on your D-10/D-20 or other equipment by using the editor.
Suggestions
- Turn off the partials you are not working on at the moment to hear better the result of your changes.
- Retrigger the notes (playing the synth keyboard) to hear the results after changing a parameter. That is the way this synths work.
- Set your D-10/D-20 to work in Multi-Timbral mode. Setting to Performance Mode will require different type of parameters data and another Editor.
- Very cheap USB MIDI Interface may corrupt or disallow completely MIDI SysEx Messages. So, please consider using a reliable USB MIDI Interface before editing parameters of your D-10/D20.
